The Quebec government (Transports Quebec) becomes the owner of the Matapedia to Gaspe railroad.
The former owner of the line the Gaspesie Railway Society remains the operator of the freight trains. Rail traffic is maintained on the Matapedia to Caplan section of the line. The section of the line between Caplan and Gaspe is put in a dormant state waiting for business opportunities.
Summer 2016
Asset maintenance work started in 2016. Change of 10,000 ties and spreading of 10,000 tons of ballast on the Matapedia to Caplan section.

The Quebec government (Transports Quebec) announces $100 million to repair the entire Matapedia to Gaspe railroad! Repairing the line is divided into three sections.
Section 1 Matapedia to Caplan 80 Miles
Section 2 Caplan to Port-Daniel-Gascons 44 Miles
Section 3 Port-Daniel-Gascons to Gaspe 78 Miles
